Addressing Sexual Behaviours 1 (ASB1) Acceptance and Taking Responsibility

Addressing Sexual Behaviours 1 (ASB1) is a group therapy program for cis-men who have sexually offended. This group is the first of three group therapy requirements that are part of Toronto Relationship Clinic’s treatment program for sexual offending. The focus of this group is acceptance and taking responsibility, keeping in mind that these are ongoing processes. The prerequisite for ASB1 is enrollment in the program and regular individual forensic psychotherapy sessions with a forensic psychotherapist. Some of the topics covered in ASB1 include, but are not limited to, the following: introducing and defining acceptance; reframing discomfort; understanding the role of shame and disgust; the cycle of offending; cognitive distortions for sexual offending; identifying risk factors; reconciling one’s self-story; ugly truths and social contracts.
