Meet Our New Clinician: Tanvi Yenna

Hello! I'm Tanvi Yenna, and I'm happy to connect with you. I hope reading this blog gives you a better idea of who I am as a clinician and what it might be like to work with me.

My journey as a social worker started with supporting folks who have experienced interpersonal violence and trauma. I've had the opportunity to work with folks from early childhood to late adulthood who have diverse upbringings and life experiences. I found that my passions and skill set lie with adolescents (14+) and adults. Some of my best work has been in navigating relationship conflicts, processing childhood trauma, and exploring identity (e.g. racial identities, gender, sexuality, neurodivergence).

As a South Asian queer person, I feel excited about working with BIPOC 2SLGBTQQIA+ folks. Given the unique barriers that our communities face, I'm here to support you in figuring out how to live in a world that feels like it wasn't built for you. Our work together can help you feel more connected to yourself and find your community.

Folks come to therapy for a variety of reasons. I often find many people are seeking to trust themselves again. I believe in the power of our intuition to help guide us towards happier and healthier lives. People can feel distanced from their intuition due to abuse, trauma, or other difficult life experiences. I hope to provide a compassionate and supportive space that allows you to reconnect with your inner knowing so you can learn to trust yourself again.

Deconstructing hierarchical roles within the therapeutic relationship is really important to me. During a Brainspotting training a few years ago, I heard one of my favorite metaphors for therapy: the client is the head of the comet and the therapist is the tail. In therapy speak, we might call this “client directed”. It means that I will always trust you to lead me in our conversations to what you feel is important for us to attend to. More than that, I want you to feel like you can stop me, correct me, redirect me, and call me out in sessions if and when necessary. I am committed to learning from and alongside you.

I am currently offering evening and weekend appointments in order to be more accessible. If you're interested in meeting with me, we’ll start with a free 15-min consultation to make sure I’m the right fit for you, address any of your questions, and, if those first two things go well, schedule your first session. Together, we will work at a pace that feels right for you and focus on helping you reconnect with yourself and move forward with confidence and clarity.
